Session Overview
The Rennie Center for Education Research & Policy and Policy Analysis for California Education (PACE) are collaborating to produce a policy brief aimed at informing the work of both US DOE-funded assessment consortia: the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers Consortium (PARCC ) - of which MA and CA are both members – and the SMARTER Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC). Changes in state assessments hold particular promise for students who have not been well-served by traditional assessments - like English language learners and special education students – and for subject areas that are difficult to assess through multiple choice tests – like science. PACE and the Rennie Center have commissioned 3 nationally recognized researchers to propose innovative new assessment models that: 1) incorporate computer adaptive technology, 2) provide more accurate and fair assessments of English language learners’ readiness for college and careers and, 3) better assess students’ skills and knowledge in science.
