Historically, urban high schools have proven to be the most challenging educational institution to effect lasting effective reform. The Center has partnered with Jobs for the Future (JFF) and the Center for Collaborative Education (CCE) to explore this critical issue and generate discussion around possible strategies for leveraging best practices and progress made by improving urban high schools in Massachusetts. Kicked off by the release of a Center-commissioned research brief, this half-day event will focus on:

• Highlighting the existence of urban high schools with improved progress;

•Identifying characteristics of these schools; and

•Discussing state and local policy implications for creating conditions in which a greater number of urban high schools can become high performing.

The convening will incorporate school presentations, release and discussion of a Center-commissioned white paper, a policy response prepared by JFF and CCE, a panel discussion, and period of audience question and answer.
